Body Shape Series – The 5 Basic Body Shapes

Happy Hump Day Lovelies.  After many months of going back and forth on what direction I wanted to take the blog, I have finally decided on what my end game for this little piece of blogging is going to be.  FINALLY.  Seriously, I can’t believe how many times I have changed my mind, tried new things, tried stupid ideas, tried great ideas and then walked away because I thought they were stupid ideas.  I made it to this big day.  Starting today, you will still see one to two outfit posts a week, but I will be adding more style and beauty tips.  Wardrobe pieces styled different ways, outfit creations based on style ideas from trends and magazines, beauty tips and trends and finally the continuation of the Body Shape Series.

My goal with The Fashionista Momma isn’t just to inspire women, but to teach them how to dress the best for their body and age. I want to help each and every one of you take the current trends and make it work for you.  This is what I went to school for, and ultimately, it is the best way for me to help others be the best version of themselves.  So, let’s get started with the basics for the body shape series.  These little tips will help you with future posts, as we will be coming back to the body shape series often.

Body Shape Series - 5 Basic Body Shapes featured by popular Los Angeles fashion blogger, The Fashionista Momma

THE 5 BASIC BODY SHAPES

The basic body shapes pictured are defined by the shoulder, waist to hip ratio.  If you think of each body shape as the actual shape of the item pictured it’s pretty simple.  Let’s look at each one going from left to right.

Pear

The pear body shape or triangle is characterized by fuller hips.  A pear will typically gain weight below the waist first, in the hips and thighs.

Column

The column or rectangle is characterized by little to no waist definition.  This means that there is no distinct waist and the shoulders and hips are equal.

Apple

The apple or round is characterized by a fuller waist.  A apple will tend to gain weight around the middle.  Health wise, we hear a lot about apples and how gaining weight around the mid section can be dangerous.  An apple can be at higher risk for heart disease, high blood pressure and other metabolic syndromes.

Hourglass

The hourglass is characterized by a perfect waist definition and a equal balance of the shoulders and hips. This is considered the most ideal body shape.  You will also see this broken down into two categories; the hourglass and the full hourglass.  I will discuss these together and break down the style tips a little for each hourglass body type.

Strawberry

The strawberry or inverted triangle is characterized by broad shoulders and narrower hips.

As I go on, I will discuss each basic body shape in detail and ways you can create the illusion of a perfectly balanced body.  Each of these basic body shapes have their perks and it simply comes down to knowing how to dress for your shape.  Keep a look out as we discuss these shapes individually.  Also, remember that our bodies can change.  Especially after having children.  So, keep that in mind and check in with yourself after life changing events, like weight loss, weight gain, and child birth.  If you have any questions please let me know.

Have you been to Ensenada? What’s your favorite spots? We had a great time on our Ensenada excursion on our Carnival cruise. Including rain, pina coladas, La Bufadora and wine tasting at Santa Tomas winery. If you are in SoCal I recommend making your own way across the border to Ensenada.
