Hi Lovelies. I hope you all are recovering nicely from 4th of July. I don’t know if I mentioned this, but I am back to teaching yoga and I am so excited. I have been going to the gym regularly and now that I am teaching one class a week, it’s making me more focused to get myself back on track.
One thing I have noticed with the extra activity and getting back into hot yoga, is the importance of water. With my increase in activity and sweating, I have been getting calf cramps and feeling a little under the weather. My skin feels dry, and I’ve been waking up sore. Which is no good for my workout routine. It hit me that I wasn’t drinking enough water. Duh. I tell people after class every week to be sure to drink water and I wasn’t even listening to my own advice.
So, today my yogi teacher self is going to tell you 4 reasons you need water when practicing yoga.
1. Aiding in detoxification
Water flushes your system. This is huge when practicing yoga. There are so many postures designed to cleanse your system, from your endocrine system to your stomach. If you aren’t drinking enough water to flush the toxins from your body, you can feel sick and achy. This is one of the first signs that the toxins are remaining in your body. By increasing your water intake, you are allowing your body to rid itself of unwanted waste. Big score.
2. Rehydrating your body
This is a no-brainer right? Especially, with hot yoga. You sweat. You sweat A LOT! You need to drink enough water to replenish what you are losing. This will help keep your body hydrated, keeping your skin looking lovely and your muscles from cramping. By choosing a brand like smartwater, you can rehydrate with a clean crisp taste that will keep you feeling good all day.
3. Beautifying your skin
We all want that beautiful after yoga glow. Am I right? Again, by adding more water to your life, this allows your body to flush itself of toxins. Starting with the biggest organ in your body. Your skin. Sweat it out, flush it out. Thrist for more. Drink more.
4. Promoting Weight Loss
Finally, water can help promote weight loss. One thing your body can do is trick you. You may think you are hungry, when really your body just needs more water. So, by staying hydrated you can avoid overeating. Also, while you are flushing those toxins, that waste is helping your system run more efficiently. Which is key to weight loss. If you are like me and weight loss is a big part of your journey, there is one more trick you can add. Pick up some naturally sweetened Green Tea like Honest Organic Green Tea with Honey.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I am a water snob. It has to be the perfect temperature and I will only drink certain brands. My husband actually makes fun of me for this. No joke. I am a smartwater junky, always have been. The only problem is that I am a mom, I’m always thinking about costs and I’m always short on time. I love my smartwater, but I want to get it for the best price and conveniently. So, I get all my hydration goodies at CVS. I can earn and use my ExtraBucks rewards to stay hydrated. It’s a win, win. Head to your local CVS refrigerator section, then to your nearest yoga class.
Get your stretch on and feel good on the inside and out. Here is your added bonus, Spend $5, get $2 in ExtraBucks rewards in-store with your CVS ExtraCare Rewards Card.
