1. Find Your Inspiration

Head to Pinterest and start searching for your inspiration. I love to find multiple ideas. I always try to search for keywords of things I am really interested in. For example, white brick fireplace, decorative pillow ideas, Patterned tile bathroom, mixed metal kitchen, etc. Try to be specific to trends you love.

2. Shop Around

I always start online, pricing out items and picking out the exact pieces I want. Depending on what you are looking for, check Home Depot for fixtures, Overstock, Wayfair, Kings Lane etc. Then I head to Home Goods first and see what I can find. If they don’t have it, I order online.

3. Only Buy What You Love

I will find an item that is so close to what I want, but I don’t love it. So, I leave it. Every time I have purchased something that was OK, I have returned it or bought something new down the road. If there is an item that you really love that is pricey, but you know you will keep it for a long time, buy it!!

4. Mix It Up

Mix in expensive items with affordable. For example I have Z Gallerie pillows and blanket on my Living Spaces couch. I have mixed in expensive light fixtures with basic can lights. Just make sure when shopping at discount stores and websites that you are buying quality items that are in perfect condition.

5. Don’t Be Afraid To Make Returns

When decorating on a budget If you don’t love it, or you find something better take it back. I used to hate making returns. Then I became a wardrobe stylist for television and half of my job is returns. Now, if something doesn’t workout I take it back.
