August’s Trend Alert

Hi Lovelies, I can’t believe the countdown to summer ending is on.  I see all my friends in California posting their back to school photos which is just crazy to me.  It’s August.  Since when did school start in August? I can’t believe it.  We have had gorgeous weather for days at a time and I am in heaven.  My little Lo has been sick which has left indoors for a bit, but I am hoping she will wake up better tomorrow.  The time has come that we say good-bye to summer and we say hello to fall.

August’s Trend Alert brings fall clothes and a seasonal transition.  We start to see deeper tones and layers in magazines.  We will see the color palette make a strong change in August.  Here are my top August Trends to put on and play up.

Wide Leg Pants:  Denim or trousers, take your pick.  The wide leg pant is back.  Paired with oversized sweaters and deep earthy tones.  I actually love wide leg pants with a good chunky heel or wedge.

Printed Slip-ons: Do ya’ll remember the Vans slip-on?  The style is back, but in textures and patterns of all sorts.  Leathers, furs, faux leather, plaids and leopard.  I jumped on this trend last year with a pair of leopard print slip-ons.  This year they are coming in platforms and flats.  You can find them in almost every store.

The Mod look:  Color blocking, sheath dresses, and chunky heels.  Think a little piece of Twiggy in the 60’s and 70’s.  You can really do so much with this look.  Mix textures, prints, and layers.  Vests and jackets over boho shirts or jackets paired with a sheath dress, layered over a collared shirt. To keep the look modern, focus on one retro piece, paired with a classic item.  For example, a color blocked dress with a classic pump.  Another option is, a motorcycle jacket paired with wide leg pants, wedges and a t-shirt.

Bold Prints:  Stripes, florals, psychedelic and paisley.  Fun and funky patterns, paired with slinky and heavy fabric.   Again, a little ode to the 60’s and 70’s.  There is definitely a retro vibe to the trends this month.  Keep it cool, by pairing it with minimalist accessories and bold color contrasts.  Or like I mentioned in the July’s Trend Alert stick with a similar color palette and mix the patterns.

This is the round up to this month’s trend alert.  This month, due to my vacation, I will be skipping Currently Loving.   In exchange you are getting some great guest posts from some awesome bloggers.  Yay!!  Check back this weekend, for a giveaway of one of my new favorite products and join in the Style Saturday Link Up.  Happy Wednesday.

Have you been to Ensenada? What’s your favorite spots? We had a great time on our Ensenada excursion on our Carnival cruise. Including rain, pina coladas, La Bufadora and wine tasting at Santa Tomas winery. If you are in SoCal I recommend making your own way across the border to Ensenada.
