Body Shape Series: Perfect Coat For Your Body Shape

Hi Lovelies, it’s time to check back in with the body shape series.  Today’s post is about finding the perfect coat for you.  If you need to check in to find out what your body shape is, you can find my very first post here.  If you know your body shape and are ready to jump in, below you will find all 5 of the basics and the perfect coats for each. From casual lightweight coats to heavy winter coats, we cover them all.  A few key tips for coat shopping, be sure the coat fits comfortably.  To be sure, put the coat on and button it.  Now, take your arms and give yourself a hug.  The back of the coat should still be comfortable and not really tight. I know this sounds obviously, but there’s nothing worse than having to return clothes! Also, remember these tips are to create balance in the body.  This means if your hips are the widest point and you are a pear, these tips are to draw the eye away and create balance in the shoulders.  The best way to be sure your wardrobe picks are exactly what you want is to work with a stylist.  They can hear your exact wants and needs to help you shop.

Body Shape Series-5

Pear

When shopping for a coat for the pear shape, you want to focus o detailed collars, pockets and buttons.  Double breasted outerwear is a great option for the pear shape.  The added buttons and details draws the eye upward.  Try to focus on lighter fabrics.  Obviously, if you live in extreme temperatures this may not be possible, but focus on less structured pieces.

Column

The perfect coat for the column shape body has a defined waist and details with pockets.  You want to create the illusion of a more defined waist.  Adding details at the neckline, shoulders and hips will help do this.  Belts and a tailored coat are a must for the column body shape.

Apple

The apple body shape should focus on flowing soft fabrics that hang from the shoulders.  A-line, cardigan style outerwear, with shawl collars, are nice.  Finally, a nice v-neck will elongate the upper body and look great on an apple.

Hourglass

When shopping for coats, the hourglass really has a ton of options.  The many things to look for in the perfect coat, are a defined waist in a slightly structured or light to medium fabric.  This allows the coat to move nicely with the body.  Belted coats are also a great option for the hourglass body shape since it helps define the waist.

Strawberry

The perfect coat for the strawberry shape body is structured with angular lines.  You want to be sure that your jacket has a defined waist, it doesn’t have to be belted, but should be  tailored to fit well to the body.  Focus on crisp fabrics to help maintain the structure of the coat.

Have you been to Ensenada? What’s your favorite spots? We had a great time on our Ensenada excursion on our Carnival cruise. Including rain, pina coladas, La Bufadora and wine tasting at Santa Tomas winery. If you are in SoCal I recommend making your own way across the border to Ensenada.
