Guide To Nashville

Hi Lovelies.  Last week, the girls and I hitched a ride with the hubs to Nashville.  It was such a great trip.  If you follow along on Snapchat and Instagram, you got a little sneak peak.  Today, I am sharing all of our must sees from Music City.  We got so lucky and CMA Fest was on it’s way in while we were visiting.  So, we got a little extra bonus on our trip with free concerts and the CMT awards. We did a lot of sight seeing, but the destinations below were our favorite.  Here is my guide to Nashville.

Belle Meade Plantation

The Belle Meade Plantation is amazing and perfect for families.  You will start with a tour of the plantation house and see the history of their horses.  When your tour finishes, you can join in a free wine tasting of their house wines.  Which are amazing, by the way.  After the tour we decided to join in their scavenger hunt.  You receive a backpack filled with coloring items and a key that opens 6 treasure chests around the property.  My girls were in heaven.  They had so much fun and learned a lot along the way.   The backpack is an additional charge, but it’s well worth the $10 you will pay.

Andrew Jackson’s The Hermitage

The Hermitage was my personal favorite. It was amazing to hear a president’s personal story and see how different the times were.  Andrew Jackson invited people into his personal home, and shared his life.  His home was beautiful and his story was touching.  They had an audio tour for the grounds and the girls loved it.  They had a children specific tour that was so cute.  It had so many facts for the kids and they loved punching in the codes and getting the stories.

Grand Ole Opry

The Grand Ole Opry tour was fun.  It was a little costly, but it’s fun seeing the dressing rooms and standing on the stage.  My girls love Taylor Swift and there is a picture of her in one of the dressing rooms. I told them she had stood on that very stage,  so they HAD to get their photos taken in the circle.  It was so cute.  If you have children that love music, it’s definitely worth seeing.

Nashville Zoo at Grassmere

We almost didn’t make it to the zoo.  At the last minute, we squeezed it in and I am so glad we did.  It’s a great zoo and they have a few unique things, I have never seen before.  The girls were able to pet Kangaroos and turtles, I thought that was really cool. My daughters both said petting the kangaroos was their favorite part of the whole trip.

Cheekwood Botanical Garden & Museum of Art

 Cheekwood is gorgeous.  The perfect place to take a picnic lunch and enjoy the stunning gardens.  While we were visiting, the gardens were filled with International Playhouses, inspired by different places around the globe.  They were so fun for the girls and they had a blast exploring the gardens to find the next playhouse.

The Frothy Monkey – A great coffee shop with really good breakfast.  The only thing I can say is Paula Dean was not joking when she said everything is better with butter.  In the south, it just seems like they love their butter. So, just be prepared for lots of butter.

The Southern – You must try the Chicken Fried Chicken.  It was so good, I saved it for my husband and he ate it cold.  That’s how good it was. Also, the mac n’ cheese was a big hit with the kids.

Corky’s – This is a bit of drive out of town, but Corky’s is so good.  Of course this is my husband giving the barbecue advice, but it’s one of his favorites for dry-rubbed ribs. It came as a recommendation from a local, and didn’t disappoint.

Hattie B’s – We didn’t make it to Hattie B’s, but my friend Maddie from Tinge of Whimsy recommended it.  So, I’m including it on the list. It’s always voted as the best hot chicken in Nashville.

Savannah Candy – Their ice cream and candy is amazing.  Any of their chocolate choices, candy apples and taffy were all so yummy. I was obsessed with their pecan pralines.  Like, I bought one for each of us and ate them all. Hubby had the coffee gelato that was also great.
