July’s Trend Alert

Spread the love

Hi Lovelies,  Life is back to normal for us now.  Fourth of July has come and gone, the hubs is back to work and we have a friend coming to visit from Virginia today.  We are excited to have her come hang out with us and share our little piece of NYC.

For today’s post, I have started a new series that you will see the second Wednesday of every month.  This will be covering current trends you will see in Style magazines and tips on how to adapt them into your stylish mom wardrobe.  I love fashion magazines.  I have a subscription to almost every magazine you can imagine.  I love looking through them and seeing trends make the leap from runway to everyday style.  A few weeks ago, I decided I wanted to share this with all of you.  Every once in a while, you might see me even style an “Outfit On A Budget” based on something I saw in magazine.  Check back every once in awhile for these outfits and once a month to get your dose of trend alert.

  1. Bold Leaf – This is one of my favorite summer trends.  It is also one of the easiest to add to your wardrobe.  You can really add it with a shirt, pants or a dress.  My style recommendation for this trend is a loose jogger style pant (I styled one here and here).  This can be dressed up or down, which  makes it perfect for us busy moms.  We can go from day to night with just a few changes.  A nice shirt or wrap dress with a bold leaf print is another great option.  Or you can pick it up in a shirt cut for your body shape.  I like high contrast options for this pattern; black and white, navy and white, green and white, or black and green.  Something like that.
  2. Bold Leaf Print for Summer White – Lots of white.  White nail polish, white pants, white tops.  As I am typing this, my nails are white.  It’s every where.  If you want to stay simple, go with white nail polish.  Just be sure to take the polish off when it starts to chip a messy white manicure is never pretty.  If you are feeling brave, go with white skinnies, or white culottes.  Finally a LWD (little white dress) is another perfect option.   I love a sheath style for a white dress.LWD Little White Dress
  3. Mix & Match – Mix and match patterns are very popular right now.  I am in love with the floral and stripe combos, or stripes on stripes.  Take your pick.  My only suggestion is to look for complementary colors, or the same colors, just different thickness or angles.  I haven’t personally worn this look yet, but I am sure I will have it up soon.
  4. Bohemian –  The “not over styled” simple look.  Think Kate Hudson.  This can be something simple cutoffs and fringe, or go with a boho pattern and tie in something modern.  Or accessorize with a necklace or purse.  Keep it simple and not to over the top 70’s.  You don’t want to look dated.  Cutoffs and fringe boho style

After scouring my large stack of magazines, these are my top picks for July.  Check back again the second week of August for the next round of trend alerts.  I am so excited to be co-hosting with Monica from Jersey Girl Texan Heart.  Link up your style posts below and join the fun.
