Body Shape Series: Find The Best Bathing Suit

Spread the love

Hi Lovelies, summer is here, and vacation planning is in full effect! ย We are all hitting the gym a little more to get beach ready. ย We are all picking out our perfect bathing suit and trying to find the one that will hide our flaws, but flaunt our assets. ย I want to start with one piece of advice. DON’T be hard on yourself in the dressing room. ย Don’t stare at the extra skin around your midsection or the extra padding on your hips. ย Start the bathing suit session with a bold statement “I love my body for everything it is and everything it isn’t.” ย Then put on that first swim suit. ย Deal?

Before you start trying on those suits here are some tips for every body shape to find the best fit. ย  Of course, with the body shape series we break it down by the five main body shapes: pear, column, apple, hourglass and strawberry. ย If you are unsure of your body shape, you can check out my first post in this series here.

Body Shape Series-6

Pear – ย When shopping for a bathing suit look for patterned tops and solid bottoms. ย Look for details on the shoulders to draw the eye up. ย Also, pay attention to the thigh cut. ย You don’t want it to fall at your widest point. ย You can also choose a bathing suit with a intricate top like the two seperate bathing suits below. ย Simply pair it with a solid bottom.

Column – Look for a patterned bikini to create the illusion of the waist. ย A padded top will also be a good choice. ย Finally, a one piece with a darker center will help give the body definition.

Apple – The apple body shape should look for a tankini that flows away from the body. ย Include details around the neckline or shoulders to draw the eye toward the face. ย I love this Lucky Brand bathing suit. It’s bright and fun with the detailed neckline.

Hourglass – An hourglass can wear almost anything. ย A fitted bathing suit is a better choice. ย So, make sure that you always look for a bathing suit that follows the body shape.

Strawberry – ย When shopping for a bathing suit look for a detailed bottomย and a solid top. ย Halter necklines, or strapless, are also a great choice to show off your beautiful upper body. ย Try to avoid floral prints and look for more graphic lines and geometric patterns.

I would love to hear all of your fun trips you have planned for summer. We will be making our way to Cancun soon and I can’t wait. What are your summer vacation plans? ย Tropical Paradise or a family lake, or visiting family?

  1. Awesome post, Megan! I think it’s fabulous when we focus on how to dress for your body type instead of trying to force our bodies into a certain mold. I love that graphic you made!

It was great seeing you again on Saturday. So bummed we didn’t get to chat more! We’ll have to plan something else soon! Hope you had fun!

    1. I’m sorry Misty I did include the Gottex and Magic Suits that could fit plus size. Gottex actually has other options for people who are plus size and they are really cute. Here is a link to Neiman Marcus ๐Ÿ™‚ xo ~ Megan

  2. I just bought a new bathing suit last summer, black with a polka dot belt on the waist. I’m either pear shaped or hour glass, not quite sure if my bottom is bigger than my top! Ha ha!

Every year we go to several nearby beaches and of course at least one week camping! Sometimes more ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. I love all these suggestions! I get so overwhelmed trying to find a bathing suit, that sometimes I just give up! Thank you for this post ๐Ÿ˜‰
