Spread the love

We are still catching up on old content and really trying to get up some epic YouTube videos for you all of some of our past trips. Today, we are sharing our Top Places To Visit In Austin from my birthday trip we took over Labor Day weekend. To start, Austin is such a great city. We highly recommend traveling there with and without children. It has such a great night life and so many cool spots to see.

We stayed in the perfect part of town at such a cute hip hotel, Hotel Van Zandt. Upon arrival you can get a beer or non-alcoholic drink. There is also happy hour every evening from 5-6pm where they serve beer, wine and margaritas. It was a perfect break in our day before dinner. Looking for adventures? Check out lots of different things to do and see on Viator.

Texas Longhorns Football Game

This is at the top of our list. It was such a great experience. The energy and school spirit that Austin has supporting this college football team is amazing. This was a top charter for our girls and added one more school to my daughters list of colleges she wants to attend.

Barton Springs

Barton Springs is a natural spring right in the heart of Austin. The girls loved this spot, but be prepared the water is chilly. It was really hot when we there so it was slightly refreshing, but it was struggle to get in if you went slow.

Rainey St.

Another spot on our list of places to visit in Austin was Rainey Street. Which is right where our hotel was located. Check it out in the evening there is live music at almost every bar and so many good places to grab dinner. We highly recommend Bangers or Anthem.

The Bats at Congress Bridge

Alright, so although this was pretty epic to see, We want to be clear the bats are very small… We had really high expectations and I think we felt a little let down. However, it is a very unique experience to Austin so we had to include it. We packed snacks and half of us watched from just under the bridge while the other half watched from a public dock a ways down. It was pretty cool to see, but I wish the bats were like super sized so you could really see them .

Mount Bonnell

Mount Bonnell was about fifteen minutes from our hotel, but definitely had great views of some amazing homes that are lake front on Lake Austin. When we say amazing, these are multi-million dollar homes that will just blow you away. The views are endless all the way across the lake to another bridge. We do recommend going early especially if you are visiting in the summer. Also, you can avoid crowds. We went bright and early and there were only a few families there while we are visiting.

Capitol Building

We had way too much fun visiting the capitol building. We made a whole Wes Anderson video of our visit. It’s a gorgeous building and it was fun to discuss government positions and history with the girls. They got to see a senate chamber and all of the people who hold the state positions.
